I observed today some one that had a clam shell type phone. She was finished with her call, she quickly closed her phone, and it made a “slap”.
That sound…. I haven’t heard that sound in years. See, I now have a Blackberry. Before that I had a Treo for 4 years. I have not had a flip phone in a long time. But I instantly knew that sound.
When the world had flip phones we could hang up with force. We could slam that phone fast. It would make a “Slap”! When we got bad news…”Slap”. The other party just wouldn’t see it my way….”Slap”. Just mad at the world…”Slap”.
We can’t do that now. It’s just a push of the button or a tap on the screen. No way to show emotion, just a simple hang up.
By the way, she had just spoken to the love of her life (I could tell it by the way she was speaking). She gave the phone a slow and gentle close. She was glad to talk to him. Her phone still made the “slap” but this “slap” was the “The I love you and miss you “slap”.
And thats OK too.
